Infobip vs Meta Direct vs Twilio: When to Mix Providers
Arino One runs on the providers you choose. Most teams start with one. This guide explains what each of the three common choices is best at, and the few situations where mixing them is worth the extra setup.
In Short
- Infobip covers every channel and both kinds of calling (phone calls and WhatsApp calls).
- Meta Direct puts WhatsApp on your own Meta App and unlocks Meta Business Agent.
- Twilio fits US numbers and setups you already run on Twilio.
- Mixing makes sense when a country, channel or cost line favours a different provider.
| Provider | Strongest for | Calls | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infobip | One account for WhatsApp, SMS, RCS, Viber, Telegram, email and more | Phone calls and WhatsApp calls | An official Meta Business Solution Provider; Arino One is an Infobip partner |
| Meta Direct | WhatsApp on your own Meta App through the Cloud API | WhatsApp calls | WhatsApp only; Meta bills you directly; needed for Meta Business Agent |
| Twilio | US numbers and existing Twilio projects | Phone calls | US SMS from local numbers needs A2P 10DLC registration |
Sources: Meta describes the Cloud API Calling feature for receiving and making WhatsApp calls (Meta for Developers); Meta Business Agent runs on numbers managed through the Cloud API (Meta Business Agent docs); US carriers require A2P 10DLC for application messages on local numbers (Twilio docs); Infobip lists its supported channels in its documentation (Infobip docs).
When Mixing Is Worth It
Your own Meta account, plus Infobip for voice
If you want WhatsApp on your own Meta App (for direct billing from Meta, or to use Meta Business Agent), connect it with Meta Direct. Keep Infobip for phone calls and the other channels. Both show up in the same inbox.
German numbers through seven
For SMS to +49 numbers, a local supplier such as seven can be a better fit on price. Compare current rates on each supplier's own price list before you switch; we do not quote them here [Source Needed]. Add seven as an SMS supplier and send +49 traffic to it with a routing rule by country.
US numbers you already have on Twilio
If your US numbers and A2P 10DLC registration already live on Twilio, keep them there. Connect Twilio and route US traffic to it, rather than re-registering elsewhere.
A fallback provider
A second provider can take over when the first returns an error. Set a fallback rule so a failed SMS retries on the other provider.
When One Provider Is Enough
If your customers are mostly in one region and you use a handful of channels, one provider is simpler: one account, one bill, one place to check delivery. Start on Infobip, which covers every channel, and add another provider later from the setup wizard when a clear reason appears. See Choosing Your First Provider.
