Turning GDPR tools on or off
The GDPR tools in your instance can be switched on or off in Settings → GDPR. Businesses with no customers in the EU or EEA may turn them off. Messaging rules such as opt-in and opt-out still apply wherever you operate.
What the setting controls
The toggle covers the instance's GDPR tools, such as erasure requests and retention policies. If you message anyone in the EU or EEA, keep them on.
What still applies anywhere
- Marketing needs opt-in, and opt-outs must be honoured: see consent and opt-in.
- Channel policies, such as WhatsApp's, apply in every country.
- Local privacy law still applies. Check the rules in each country you message.
