LINE messaging

ChannelsUpdated 2026-07-28

LINE connects to Arino One through a LINE Official Account and its Messaging API channel: you create the account, generate a channel access token and secret, connect them under Settings → Channels → LINE, and point the LINE webhook at your instance so inbound messages land in the shared inbox. Once connected, LINE behaves like any other channel in the inbox, in automations and in campaigns.

Availability is country-dependent. LINE is only a viable channel in the markets where it has real adoption, and Viber availability similarly varies by country while RCS depends on carrier and country support. Confirm the channel is available and used in your target countries before building on it.

What LINE is

LINE is the dominant messaging app in Japan and Taiwan, with large user bases in Thailand and Indonesia, and limited relevance elsewhere. Businesses communicate through an Official Account that users add as a friend. Messages support text, images, video, stickers, and rich formats such as rich menus pinned to the bottom of the chat, carousels and quick-reply chips — closer to a small in-app storefront than to a plain text channel.

Followers-only, by design

The central constraint of LINE is that it is opt-in at the account level. You can only message users who have added your Official Account as a friend, and you address them by an opaque per-account user ID rather than a phone number. There is no equivalent of sending to a purchased list or a raw phone number.

That makes follower acquisition the real work of running the channel: QR codes on packaging and in stores, a LINE add button on your site, and links in other channels are the standard routes. See the QR opt-in guide for how to wire a scan into a tracked opt-in on the instance.

Availability and regional fit

LINE has no per-country carrier dependency the way SMS, RCS or Viber do, so nothing blocks you technically from enabling it. The practical constraint is adoption: outside LINE's core markets, follower growth will be slow enough that the channel rarely pays for itself. Confirm that your audience actually uses LINE in the countries you serve before you build flows that depend on it, and keep WhatsApp or SMS as the primary channel elsewhere.

Activating LINE on your instance

  1. Create a LINE Official Account for your brand, or identify the existing one you'll use.
  2. In the LINE Developers console, create a Messaging API channel linked to that Official Account.
  3. Generate a channel access token and note the channel secret.
  4. Enter both under Settings → Channels → LINE on your Arino One instance.
  5. Copy the webhook URL shown by the instance into the LINE channel settings and enable webhooks. Disable the default auto-reply and greeting messages if you want the instance to own all replies.
  6. Verify the webhook from the LINE console, then send yourself a test message from the Official Account and reply to confirm two-way routing.

You always create the Official Account yourself and own it directly — the account itself must be owned by your business and cannot be transferred casually, so create it under a company account rather than a personal one. On an instance with the $50/month Arino Core connection, Arino can perform the technical connection step for you once the Official Account exists; on an unconnected instance, you complete the connection yourself.

Push messages, reply messages and quotas

LINE distinguishes between two kinds of outbound traffic. Reply messages answer a user's message using a short-lived reply token and don't count against your quota. Push messages are sent on your initiative to a stored user ID, and count against the message allowance included in your LINE Official Account plan, with charges above it.

This matters for campaign planning: a broadcast to your full follower base consumes quota quickly, and quota is a property of your LINE plan rather than something Arino controls. Check your remaining allowance before a large send.

Verification and account badges

LINE offers verified and premium Official Account badges, granted by LINE after a review of your business. A badge improves discoverability in LINE's in-app search and increases trust, but it is not required to send messages. Verification is handled directly with LINE and its timeline is outside Arino's control.

Adding your Official Account as a friend is the opt-in, and blocking or unfriending is the opt-out — both are reflected in the contact's record on the instance so blocked users are excluded from future sends automatically. If you use LINE alongside other channels for the same contact, keep the consent records per channel: a LINE follower has not consented to SMS marketing.

Billing

LINE message costs are set by your LINE Official Account plan and any overage LINE charges beyond the included quota, rather than metered per message by Infobip in the same way as SMS. The flat $50/month Arino instance fee covers the connection and its management, not message volume. See billing and plans for how usage is charged and channels and senders billing for channel-level costs.

Frequently asked

How do I connect LINE to Arino One?

Create a LINE Official Account and a Messaging API channel in the LINE Developers console, generate a channel access token and secret, then connect them under Settings → Channels → LINE on your instance and point the webhook at the instance.

Can I message anyone on LINE?

No. LINE is a followers-only channel — you can only message users who have added your Official Account as a friend. There is no way to cold-message a phone number the way you can on SMS.

Is LINE available everywhere?

LINE is technically reachable wherever users have the app, but meaningful adoption is concentrated in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia. Outside those markets, expect very low follower acquisition — confirm your audience actually uses LINE before you invest in the channel.

What's the difference between reply and push messages?

Reply messages respond to a user action using a short-lived reply token and are free. Push messages are sent on your initiative to a known user ID and count against your LINE plan's message quota.

How is LINE billed?

Message volume is governed by your LINE Official Account plan and any per-message charges LINE applies above the included quota. The flat $50/month Arino instance fee covers the connection and management, not message volume.
